Past Scholarship Recipients
The Building Industry Association of Whatcom County is pleased to support learning beyond high school. To qualify for a scholarship, applicants must be pursuing post-secondary (after high school) training or education, involving any subject. They must either own or work for, or be a family member of anyone who owns or works for, a BIAWC member company. Scholarships go toward tuition, fees and books for the upcoming academic year, only at the school or program(s) described below.
2020 BIAWC Scholarship Recipients:
Serena Keenan, a Sehome High School senior and 2019 BIAWC Scholarship Recipient. She will continue studying English at Smith College this fall. Serena receives a $1,000 scholarship. She is related to John Keenan of Bellingham Millwork Supply.
Sophia Lawrence, a 2019 BIAWC Scholarship Recipient who will be continuing studies in education at George Fox University this fall. Sophia receives a $1,000 scholarship. She is related to Lance Lawrence of James Hardie Building Products, Inc.
Shanna Leyenhorst, a senior at Cornerstone Christian School will be studying Business & Marketing at Whatcom Community College this Fall. She receives a $1,000 scholarship. She works for Faber Construction.
Kyle Pritchard, a Whatcom Community College graduate. He will be studying at Western Michigan University this summer. Kyle receives a $1,000 scholarship. Kyle has been working at Lynden Door since 2016.
Dylan Wong, a Squalicum High School senior. He will be studying Pharmacy and Health Sciences at the University of the Pacific this fall. Dylan receives a $1,000 scholarship. He is related to Thuy Tiller of XXXXXX.
2019 BIAWC Scholarship Recipients:
Shawn Leyenhorst, who will be continuing his studies in civil engineering technology with a minor in construction management this fall at Washington Polytechnic Institute. Shawn receives the $1,400 Cleo and Maria Callen Scholarship. He works for Faber Construction.

Angela Van Beek, who will continue with prerequisites for the nursing program at Whatcom Community College this fall. Angela will receives a $1,200 scholarship. She is the daughter of Doug Van Beek of Van Beek Drywall.
Sophia Lawrence, who will be continuing studies in education at George Fox University this fall. Sophia receives a $1,000 scholarship. She is related to Lance Lawrence of James Hardie Building Products, Inc.
Connor T Ellis, a Blaine High School senior. Connor will be studying construction management at Washington State University this fall. Connor receives a $1,000 scholarship. He is related to Brent DePauw of West Mechanical.
Madison Wiersma, a Lynden Christian High School senior. Madison will be studying marketing and advertising at Colangelo College of Business, Grand Canyon University this fall. Madison receives a $900 scholarship. She is related to Tim Wiersma of Everkept Construction Inc.
Jere’ Zender, who will be continuing her studies in accounting at Indiana State University this fall. Jere’ receives a $900 scholarship. She works for Blue Star Welding.
Conner Bolick, a Blaine High School senior. Conner will start studies for his associates’ degree at Whatcom Community College this fall. Conner receives a $700 scholarship. He has family at both Wiebe Construction and North County Lawn Care.
Seth Tercero, a Mount Vernon High School senior. Seth will be studying business administration at University of Montana Western this fall. Seth receives a $700 scholarship. He is related to Navar Tercero of N3 Upholstery.
