PURPOSES AND OBJECTIVES

 

The purpose of this Council shall be to operate as a Council of the Building Industry Association of Whatcom County, affiliated with the Building Industry Association of Washington, the National Association of Home Builders and the NAHB Remodelers TM Council.

 

The objectives of this Council are as follows:

 a.      To associate firms and individuals engaged wholly or in part in activities relating to the remodeling industry for the purpose of mutual advantage and cooperation.

 

b.      To establish credibility and accountability for the members of this Council.

 

c.      To encourage ethical conduct, good business practices and professionalism in the remodeling industry.

 

d.      To advance the image of the remodeling contractor as a professional in the eyes of the public and the remodeling industry.

 

e.      To sponsor educational programs and activities for the benefit of its members.

 

f.        To educate the public on the value of maintaining and upgrading their homes.

 

g.      To provide opportunities for members to receive diverse remodeling industry services.

 

h.     To become the spokesperson for the segment of the remodeling industry served and represented by the Council.

 

 

The following code of ethics is applicable to all members of the Council:

 a)     To conduct business affairs with professionalism and skill.

 b)     To provide the best remodeling value possible.

 

c)      To avoid using any statement or implication which may be misleading or deceptive.

 

d)     To accurately and honestly describe the price, materials, and standards of workmanship used in projects.

 

e)     To use only materials equal to or exceeding the quality of those specified in the contract.

 

f)       To start construction process as close as possible to the specified contract date and proceed diligently to the contracted completion date of the project without unnecessary delays.

 

g)     To cooperate with the Remodelers TM Council of the Building Industry Association of Whatcom County in responding to and resolving complaints registered against Council members.

 

h)     To protect the consumer through the use of quality materials and remodeling practiced backed by integrity and service.

 

i)        To provide remodeled housing with high standards of safety, sanitation and livability.

 

j)        To meet all financial obligations in a responsible manner.

 

k)      To comply with the spirit and letter of business contracts, and manage employees, subcontractors and suppliers with fairness and honor.

 

l)        To keep informed regarding public policies and other essential information that affects our business interests and those of the building industry as a whole.

 

m)   To keep honesty as our guiding business policy.

 

n)     To provide timely response to items covered under warranty.

 

o)     To seek to resolve controversies through a non-litigation dispute resolution mechanism.

 

p)     To support and abide by the decisions of the Council in promoting and enforcing the Code of Ethics.
