BUILDING INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION OF WHATCOM COUNTY HONORS MEMBERS

(Bellingham, WA)  Building Industry Association of Whatcom County (BIAWC) honored members for their contributions to Whatcom County and the local building industry at the Annual BIAWC Installation & Awards Banquet on December 16th, 2009.

Del Jacobson of Advent Construction, Inc. and the 2009 BIAWC President, said, "BIAWC members and guests gathered to recognize our industry leaders receive the top eight prestigious awards [Builder of the Year, Associate of the Year, Remodeler of the Year, Associate MRC Member of the Year, Built Green® Builder of the Year, Built Green® Associate of the Year, Most Valuable Political Player and Darryl McClelland Community Service].  The evening was also a year of celebration recognizing industry accomplishments and welcoming our 2010 leadership with newly elected Charlie Hudson of Hudson Remodeling taking leadership as BIAWC President."

2009 Building Industry Association of Whatcom County (BIAWC) Award Recipients are as follows:

Built Green® Builder of the Year, Csabea Horvath of Astal Construction

Built Green® Associate of the Year, Robert Stockman, Pinnacle Inspections

Most Valuable Political Player, Charlie Hudson, Hudson Remodeling

Darryl McClelland Community Service Award, Bob Weisen, Ferndale Truck Rentals


Builder of the Year
Gary Honcoop of Roosendal-Honcoop Construction is the BIAWC’s 2009 Builder of the Year.  Mr. Honcoop has been building homes in Whatcom County for over 30 years and has been a member of the Building Industry Association of Whatcom County since 1991.  Mr. Honcoop was honored for his service on the board of directors in past years and his continued active membership.  Gary Honcoop was also recognized for his work as a proponent for affordable housing and his continued advocacy for land use rights.

Associate of the Year
Stephanie Artino, of Metcalf Hodges is named the BIAWC Associate of the Year, 2009.   Ms. Artino is a Principal at Metcalf Hodges, and a member of BIAWC since 2004. She was recently elected to the BIAWC board, and has worked tirelessly to assure the fiscal health of the Building Industry Association of Whatcom County, as well as advised the BIAWC membership through  lean economic times.  Ms. Artino  dedicates  her time and energy to further the mission and goals of the Building Industry Association of Whatcom County.

Remodeler of the Year
Pat Rose of Rose Construction was the recipient of the 2009 Remodeler of the Year award. Pat Rose has been an active member of MRC and volunteered time working in the home show, participated in the 2009 service projects retrofitting access for a disabled community member, and in 2009 won three local Remodeling in Excellence awards. She assists the organization when she can and offers support for the Master Remodeler’s Council.

Associate MRC Member of the Year
Scott Alderson of Nibs Construction was selected as the 2009 Associate Master Remodeler’s Council Member of the year for his contributions to the Master Remodeler’s Council, attendance and participation, and involvement with this summer’s MRC service projects.

Built Green® Builder of the Year
Csaba Horvath of Astal Construction was awarded the Building Industry Association of Whatcom County’s  2009 Built Green® Builder of the Year Award on December 16, 2009. Mr. Horvath has served as an active participant in Built Green since 2006, winning the 2008 Built Green Washington, Western Washington Custom Home of the Year award, a statewide honor based on resource efficiency, design, quality and craftsmanship.  He chairs the Built Green® Program Development Committee, developing the new 5-Star Built Green Checklist spending countless hours helping shape the future of the residential green building in Whatcom County.

Built Green® Associate of the Year
Robert Stockmann, of Pinnacle Inspections was named 2009’s Built Green Associate of the year for his efforts in championing Built Green® and Northwest EnergyStar as a verifier and advisor through his contributions to Built Green® and the Program Development Committee as a “Building Scientist.” Over the past year, Mr. Stockmann has been a proponent of Built Green on a local television show, featured in the Wall Street Journal, and referred to throughout Western Washington as a certified Infrared Thermographer and Energy Efficiency Specialist.

Most Valuable Political Player
Charlie Hudson of Hudson Remodeling was chosen as the Building Industry Association of Whatcom County’s 2009 Most Valuable Political Player for his leadership with the Governmental Affairs Committee over the past several years, and specifically for all of his work in 2009. Mr. Hudson leads the Governmental Affairs Committee’s  research and contributions in Whatcom County’s ongoing dialogue regarding land rights and affordable housing.  Mr. Hudson will serve as the 2010 President of the Building Industry Association of Whatcom County.

Darryl McClelland Community Service Award
The 2009 Darryl McClelland Community Service Award is awarded to Bob Weisen of Ferndale Truck Rentals for his tireless dedication and continued support of builders and the BIAWC. He is a supportive member who willingly promotes this organization and it’s programs, and continues to serve as a proponent of affordable housing and land owner rights.
