Spike Club 101

Since 1953 NAHB has sponsored the Spike Club program to support members and their associations as they both recruit new members and retain existing members. At the core, a Spike is a member who understands that BIAWC membership is invaluable to their business, and wants others in the industry to enjoy the same success while contributing to the strength of the local, state and national industry. A Spike understands the value of the interconnectedness that membership offers to is or her business. And our federation understands the value that Spikes bring to the table, as well!
 
The Spike Credit schedule below explains how Spikes are recognized and rewarded for their recruiting efforts.
Spike Credits:
 
Spike credits are earned when a member recruits or retains a member. All credits are allocated through systematic reporting done by the local HBA to NAHB on a monthly basis using the member's PIN to track all Spike activity.
  • One credit is earned for recruiting a new Builder or Associate member.
  • One credit is earned for securing the renewal of a first year member.
  • ˝ credit is earned for securing the renewal of a 2nd year member and each year thereafter.
How Do I Become a Spike?

A member is classified as a Spike Club Candidate prior to becoming a Spike, during the time when they have between 1 and 5 credits. A Spike Candidate must graduate into a Spike within a 2-year time period. In other words, a member must earn 6 Spike credits within 2 years in order to become a Spike.

If these 6 Spike credits are not earned within 2 years, the credits are lost. Once a member is a Spike, they must earn one credit per year (whether recruitment, retention or a combination thereof) until they reach a total of 25 credits. A Spike with 25 credits is considered a Life Spike and need not continue to earn credits to keep their status.

The Spike Party – The Ultimate Reward

Spikes who are active recruiters are rewarded at the International Builders’ Show each year with an unparalleled event called The Spike Party. The Spike Party has become known for amazing venues, top-notch entertainment, and a great time on a grand scale!

However, the only way to enter the Spike Party is to earn it! Spikes become eligible for this event by having at least 6 credits AND one recruitment credit between January 1 and October 31.

Tickets for this one-of-a-kind event are never for sale and are only ever available to eligible Spikes. Exceptions are never granted. Ever.
