FROM THE EO’S CORNER:
Three items: the proposed Bellingham Home Fund initiative (1), a contemplated ordinance to require Construction and Demolition Waste Recycling (2), and the proposed Bellingham Environmental Element addition to the comprehensive plan (3) all endeavor to enhance the quality of life for the citizens of Bellingham. But each of these proposals, in their own way, will move the dream of homeownership a little further out of reach for Bellingham residents. Adding an additional real estate tax, creating an additional bureaucracy to regulate an existing ongoing activity, and requiring studies and actions in light of possible future climate changes will add more layers to an already burdensome process and will necessarily add to the cost of home ownership.
As an association we are asking tough questions, challenging assumptions and offering constructive input to the conversations determining the outcome of these proposals. The staff, leadership and volunteers of the BIAWC are bringing your individual voices together to be able to speak with more impact. Consider getting involved. Come to a Government Affairs committee meeting, send us your thoughts, participate in our "just launched” blog! We want to hear your views!
Don’t forget to do business with a member. Please encourage your business associates to join with us and become a member of BIAWC.
And please remember to pass the word about Baker Creek Place as a location for your next event!
Thanks for being a member.
It’s a new day at BIA!
